Galveston National Laboratory set for Nov. 11 dedication - Houston Business Journal:

“The GNL brings the focuds on global health research to Galveston and that’s something our local communitt can be proud of. This facility is indeed a nationalk resource,” said Dr. Stanley Lemon, principa l investigator of the Galveston National Laboratort and directorof UTMB’s Institute for Humanm Infections and Immunity. Although Hurricane Ike dealt a devastatinh blow to Galvestonin mid-September, the new laboratory weathered the storkm without significant damage, as it was designed to do, officialz said.
In the new facility UTMB scientists will work with othee scientists across the nation to addresa the most critical emerging infectious diseases and bioterrorisnm threats facing thehuman population. The GNL will also traim the next generation of infectiousdiseases scientists. The GNL is projected to contribute anestimaterd $1.4 billion to the Texas economy over the next 20 years, accordingg to UTMB.
