The UAW Local 249 posted the informationb in a newsletter on its Web Local 249 Vice Presidenr Bobby Wyse confirmed Monday that the informationis accurate. The production stoppage comes a week before an alreadyscheduled one-week summer break for the entire plant starting June 29, a Localo 249 spokeswoman said. The plant also is schedulef for a summer breakk during the weekof Aug. 17. Sales of Ford F-series trucks were 33,381 in May, up 16 percenr from 28,757 in April but down 22.3 percent from 42,973 in May 2008. UAW Locap 249 said the slight increasein month-to-month sales enabled Ford F) to cancel the scheduled down week on June 22 at its F-15p truck plant in Dearborn, Mich.
, but the down week was left intacf at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. “This is partiall y due to depleted funds forthe state’es Division of Unemployment in making down weeks at (Dearborn) less of an option,” the Locakl 249 said in the newsletter. Local 249 addexd that sales projections continue to be less than the five shiftss at the two truck plants can producr if they work full time through the 2010production year. Ford runs two shifts at Claycomo and threerin Dearborn. Wyse said Ford is considering once agaih moving a shift fromthe F-150 side of the Kansaas City Assembly Plant and puttingy them to work on the SUV side.
However, nothing has been determineds so far, he said. A year ago, Ford moved aboutf 800 workers from a second shift onthe F-1509 side of the Kansas City plant to a thirdc shift on the SUV side. The employees were moved back tothe F-150p side on Jan. 12. Ford Escape sales in May reached 16,391, up 20.6 percent from 13,5967 in April but down 7.2 percentt from 17,667 in May 2008. The Kansae City Assembly Plant also produced the Mercury Mariner and hybrid versions of the Ford Escape andMercuryy Mariner. Combined sales of hybrid versions of the Ford Mercury Milan, Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner reachede 3,906 in May, a new compant record.
The old sales record of 3,42 hybrid vehicles was set in April 2006. As of May, Ford’sx Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomp hadabout 3,900 hourly and 200 salaried employees.
